The Holocaust Survivors Memoir Program

Responsive website design for an engaging teaching resource.

UX/UI

Web Design

Overview

The Azrieli Foundation wanted to create an educational website that acted as a bridge between their Holocaust Survivor Memoir books and the Re:collection web app (an interactive Holocaust survivor resource). The most important goal of this project was to create a respective experience that maintained the integrity of the original memoir books and films.

Problem

The website needed to be engaging and accessible for a diversity of students, while providing a valuable resource for teachings.

Outcome

An engaging resource for students and teachers. The website was the winner of 2 Gold Communicator Awards in the Education and Not for Profit/Charity categories.

Design Process

With the wireframes completed by Usability Matters team members and a clear vision in mind, I created one visual design concept with several small variations. The overall look at feel was intended to be timeless, yet modern and approachable while being engaging enough to draw students in to explore more.

Visual design mockups were created for 10 pages, in small and large screen sizes. Inspiration, such as colours and icons, was taken from the Re:collection web app to help tie both sites together.

To allow for future enhancements and site additions, a style guide was creative to help the team maintain and achieve an accessible online presence.

Project Outcomes

The Holocaust Survivors Memoirs Program website can be used by anyone on any device, and provides an engaging experience for teachers and students to learn about the Holocaust and the people most affected by it. The website was the winner of 2 Gold Communicator Awards in the Education and Not for Profit/Charity categories.
